"Pushkin Fine Arts Museum is definitely one of the best in Moscow, if not Russia. Even if you're only in town for a few days, you should put this museum on your things to do list."

"I visited the museum in summer '07 - and was astounded at the frolific amount and style of his work. Definitely in the very large scale but allows the viewer to change perspective on life being miniscule in comparison to the scale of the works."

"I was there in 1987 with a college group. It was different experience to say the least. I found this site wondering if it was still open to the public since the fall of Communism."

"I had the pleasure of being in this theatre in May 2002, for the "Swan Lake" ballet. This theatre is awesome, confortable, nice acoustic, etc. When you add this theatre with the russian artists, you get an unforgetable experience."

State Historical Museum

"Excellent historical museum, from prehistoric time up until the Russian Revolution. Two floors, 2nd floor prehistoric - 1700, 3rd floor 1700ish - 1900 (Alexander III). English tour book (200R) for second floor only (they don't have a 3rd floor book in Russian yet either). Well worth the time, excellent exhibits, especially the military halls. If you are a history buff, a must see. Takes about 1 - 1 1/2 hours. Separate fee to take non-flash pics, and if you don't look Russian, the little old ladies will want to see your camera pass(75R). Combo pass for this mueseum and St. Basil's, camera pass good for both. Nice way to spend some time around Red Square."

Kazan Cathedral

"It's easy to be overwhelmed by the Red Square - St Basil's Cathedral alone is astonishing. But tucked away in the corner is a smaller, more intimate church which is well worth the visit. Entirely reconstructed in the early 1990s, the Kazan Cathedral is an intimate and "working" church, home to dozens of people praying, dropping in on their way home from work to light a candle, and bemused tourists. The intricacy and delicacy of the interior decor contrasts well against the exuberant external colours. There is a true feeling of spirituality in this little chapel which I thought was very special indeed. "

"Magnificent architecture and steeped in history.. But the Lenin mausoleum, housing one of history's greatest, was the sobering and awesome highlight..."

"If you're not in Moscow for very long then this place is not a priority - but if you're on the Arbat and it's raining then its worth a quick sniff around...more for the house than the exhibits which are mainly tiny sketches"

"A moscow must! Lot's of queuing involved (you don't have to take a tour guide, just join the line down the bottom of the square), and you're in out in seconds, but its a surreal experience you won't forget!"

"Please note: The Bolshoi Theater's main stage is closed for extensive reconstruction at the mo., confining its company to the 900-seat Bolshoi New Stage for most performances - plus occasional evenings in the monstrous Kremlin Palace!"

Cosmonaut Museum

"Nice museum, in a curious kind of way. A lot of the exhibits are models rather than the real things (presumably because they are 'lost in space'), but still worth the short trip north. Amusingly when we tried to take a photo we were told we had to buy a special pass, but only seconds after we politely demurred, the very same attendant was insisting that we posed for a shot in front of Yuri Gargarin - while she manned the camera! Then she went off and fined an American guy with a cam-corder!!! Must be our English charm.... "
