Moo Moo (or My My in Russian) is the name give to a very popular chain of cafeterias which operate in the vein of Soviet style milk bars. Food is purchased at a canteen, rather than by table service, and comes in large servings for a small price. However, unlike in the good old days, you can choose from a range of cuisines, from classic Russian fare such as pelmeni to more out there choices like chicken with pineapple and liver fritters. Moo Moo is a favourite choice amongst ex-pats thanks to its English menus and is also a great place for tourists to grab a cheap lunch on the Arbat. Plus there's lots of fun to be had milking the cow jokes.

This was a great choice for a budget-traveller in Moscow. You can see the food right in front of you, so even if you don't speak Russian there's not much room for mix-ups. I didn't want to go to McDonalds or anything like that, but I couldn't afford to go out to eat at too many restaurants, so this was the ideal compromise. The borscht, the kasha, the tea, and the perogies are all delicious, too! (Not to forget the unique and yummy little candies that come with the meal.) Great find!
