The Russian Minister of Finance, Alexei Kudrin announced that two G8 summits will be held in Russia in 2006.
"Two G8 meetings will be held next year when Russia holds the rotating presidency. The first one will take place on February 10 and 11 in Moscow and the second, in late May in St. Petersburg," Kudrin announced at a recent Finance Ministry Board session.
The Moscow meeting will be held just for G8 finance ministers and be overseen by Russian Deputy Finance Minister Sergei Storchak.
Russia has been involved in such summits ever since Boris Yeltsin was first invited to a Group of Seven summit in 1997. Russia won full political membership of an enlarged G8 in 2002 and assumes the rotating presidency of the body in 2006. | Source: Moscow-life | Nov.02.2005 |
