Gorky Park

Named after Russian author Maxim Gorky, referenced in the famous Scorpion track 'Wind of Change', and inspiration for Martin Cruz Smith's thriller of the same name, Gorky Park has been around a bit since it was first established by the Soviets in 1933. If you're keen to see what all the fuss is about you'll find the famous space by the river towards the south of the city. There's rollercoaster rides, a giant ferris wheel (London Eye eat your heart out!), parkland, lakes, an auditorium and the original Buran spacecraft is now a 'cosmic' treat for the kids. In the winter bring some ID and rent some skates - the lakes and paths become a giant ice rink!
